Danae Eleni | Profile
Singing which “touches your heart„

Danae Eleni brings to her music the same spirit and enthusiasm which she brings to life. Whether she is singing an operatic aria or a piece of English and Greek folk music, her love of music and connection with her audience shines through. In the next few months she is performing in Athens and across the Middle East. She has just finished the exciting new Associated Performers Studio 3 month intensive Opera course in Riverside Studios in Hammersmith.

Danae frequently performs with her pianist brother, Kimon, and together they have released their debut album "Love's Philosophy", featuring some little-known 19th Century Greek Art songs. As a duo they have given numerous charity concerts across the UK and are looking forward to upcoming recitals in London, Kent, Athens and the Middle East. The close relationship between brother and sister gives their performances together something even more special.

Danae's career in more detail

Danae Eleni made her Glaswegian debut as "Sylvia Plath" in Kelvin Thomson's Bee for SoundThought festival at the Arches earlier this year. In 2011 she starred as Gretel in Open Door Opera's critically acclaimed run of Hansel and Gretel at the King's Head Theatre in London. Danae created the role of Terpsichore in the world premiere of Lewis Reynolds' adaptation of Euripides' IPHIGENIA with music from Gluck's Iphigenie en Aulide in the Scoop at More London.

A real champion of contemporary music, Danae made her Purcell Room debut (London) in 2009 in the world premiere of Mrs Lazarus, a solo opera composed by Tim Benjamin for Radius Ensemble. While studying for her BA in Psychology, Philosophy and Physiology at Oxford University, she performed with ISIS contemporary music ensemble premiering Nirmali Fenn's Psychotic Episode, and in 2008 premiered Guy Newbury's Adria in St Mary's Cathedral for the Edinburgh Festival, and Satoko Doi's Islanders for the Leeds Lieder Festival. In 2009 Danae was the youngest finalist of the International Song competition held by the Association of English Speakers and Singers, showcasing Guy Newbury's Adria as the only entry written in the 21st century. In October 2011, Danae was in Athens performing for the 2nd International Composer/Performer conference premiering works by Kelvin Thomson, Edmund Hunt and Mirlitonnades by Roger Redgate. In May 2012 she is the soprano soloist for a "composer portrait" concert of George Holloway in Southampton

Danae recently performed the title role of Ravel's The Enchanted Child for Open Door Opera and as Lucy in The Telephone in a Vodafone store as part of the pre-tour publicity for Opera Anywhere's Menotti Double Bill, which toured to Bath, Oxford and some intimate regional venues. Other recent roles include Suor Genovieffa Suor Angelica, Micaela Carmen for Opera in Concert; Zerlina Don Giovanni for CarteBlancheOpera and Emilia Marco Attilio Regolo for the first modern realisation of this opera for Ensemble Serse.

As part of her passion for bringing opera to a wider audience, Danae has
been heavily involved in opera outreach. She most recently worked with Karen Gillingham and Hannah Conway and Garsington Opera on a successful project for primary schools in Oxfordshire, which was received with great enthusiasm by both children and teachers.

Also in demand as an oratorio soloist Danae recently performed Carmina Burana in London's Hampton Court Palace and Elgar's oratorio Lux Christi. Retaining her connections with the Middle East where she was born, Danae made her debut in Bahrain in 2009 with Brahms' Deutsche Requiem, returning the following year to launch her debut album Love's Philosophy where she performs with her brother Kimon Pallikaropoulos.

In recital Danae has performed at St George's, Hanover Square, Bloomsbury Baptist Church's International Recital series and St Sepulchre's-without-Newgate (London); Holywell Music Room (Oxford), Cardiff, Edinburgh and Athens, and many Oxford college chapels. Her repertoire spans 11 languages and 7 centuries. As well as contemporary music, she is a great promoter of 19th century Greek repertoire by composers such as Spathis and Samaras whose works are rarely performed even within Greece.

She has completed the Advanced Opera Programme run by Associated Studios in London, and has benefitted from masterclasses and coaching from Rebecca Evans, Mary King, Jonathan Hinden, Jonathan Cohen, Teresa Cahill (TCM), Stephen Wilder (RCM), Phyllida Lloyd, Dimitris Yakas (Athens) and Marco Ozbic (Teatro San Carlo - Napoli). Danae studies with Ashley Stafford and Paul Farrington.

“Danae's recital made the evening. She slipped effortlessly from opera to folk songs and even jazz, sympathetically accompanied by her brother, Kimon. Her voice touches your heart„.
